An online program for students in Years 3 and 4 introducing:

• the similarities, differences and importance of rules and laws

• the role and responsibilities of representatives

• what it means to be an active citizen

Students explore the function and significance of Australia’s democratic system of government. The program investigates:

• the how laws are made through Parliament

• the responsibilities of representatives

• the formation of government

• how government is kept accountable

On a guided tour students are shown how Parliament House is the physical representation of Australia’s democracy. Expert Guides reveal the works of Parliament and unpack the architectural story of the building.

During sitting weeks Student may have an opportunity to watch Parliament in action.

Facilitated guided tours are PACER-eligible.

Parliamentary Educators bring the work of the Parliament to life with a PEO role-play.

Students investigate how:

• government is formed

• laws are made

• the government is kept accountable

A Hospitality break includes a delicious refreshment and can be booked on the half hour. It is also a chance to meet parliamentarians, dependant on their availability.
