Australian Parliament House

The place, the people, the process – see Parliament in action when you visit Australian Parliament House.

Australian primary and secondary schools can participate in Parliament’s School Visit Program. Subject to availability, students can experience:

  • A comprehensive guided tour with the Visitor Engagement team allows students to experience the House of Representatives and Senate chambers.

  • An immersive role-play program with the Parliamentary Education Office (PEO) explores the function, value and purpose of Australia’s democratic system of government.

  • A hospitality break includes a delicious refreshment and a chane to meet parliamentarians.

Guided tours and PEO role-plays are available, commencing on the hour from 9am – 4pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. All programs are free of charge.

Digital: Introducing Parliament

An online program for students in Years 3 and 4 introducing:

  • the similarities, differences and importance of rules and laws

  • the role and responsibilities of representatives

  • what it means to be an active citizen

Students explore the function and significance of Australia’s democratic system of government. The program investigates:

Guided Tour

On a guided tour students are shown how Parliament House is the physical representation of Australia’s democracy. Expert Guides reveal the works of Parliament and unpack the architectural story of the building.

During sitting weeks Student may have an opportunity to watch Parliament in action.

Facilitated guided tours are PACER-eligible.

Hospitality Break
