AL(L)WAYS with studio workshop
AL(L)WAYS: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art & Cultures empowers students to gain a deeper appreciation and connection to First Nations artists and Communities across Australia.
In this program, there will be a focus on works of art from the Ever Present: First Peoples Art of Australia exhibition, currently showing at the National Gallery of Australia.
Ever Present is an exhibition of over 260 works that emphasise the ever-present existence of our First Peoples and considers six overarching and interlinked themes: Ancestors + Creators, Country + Constellations, Community + Family, Culture + Ceremony, Trade + Influence, Resistance + Colonisation.
This is a 2 hour program, with equal time spent in the gallery spaces and in the Tim Fairfax Learning Studio. Students will learn about works that reflect various artists' relationships with and connections to Country. Artmaking will take place during a Studio Workshop designed by Alfred Lowe, Arrente people. Alfred is a ceramic and sculptural artist who creates works of art that express his identity, culture and connection to Country as a First Nations person.
Students will then be guided in thinking about the impact places have on us as individuals and use printmaking to create a work of art based on their own experiences.
